Great night back at The Winston, with a solid turnout for another set of group match play. Good food, good drinks, and a room full of familiar faces settling in for a few hours of friendly competition.
The Grand Champion of the night belongs to Lily McShane, who claimed their first ever A-Division win! Lily's long been a fixture in the top groups, but this was the night she finally brought it home, and it came right down to the wire. On the last ball of the last game, Wes Keys had a shot at first place on King Kong that would have handed him enough points to overtake her. However, Lily held her nerve, the placings held, and she took the win, with Wes a close second and Simon Voigt + Kev Mills completing the podium.
Kev Mills also lucked out and drew one of the two door prizes along with Lee Davey who both enjoyed a drink on TAPP. Elsewhere in the field there were some real fighters — both Aaron Bloodnut and Solomon Smith pulling off awesome ball-three comebacks at various points through the night. It's always a thrill to watch with many players enjoying cheering each other on between the long rounds. Tilts were brutal on a few machines too, and matches ran long as everyone keeps growing in skill and pushing for those extra points.
Huge thanks as always to The Winston for having us back, and a special thank you to Tye for his support behind the scenes making sure the machines were all set up and playing beautifully. Thank you for continuing to support our community.
Thanks to everyone who came along and got stuck in — see you all back in a fortnight for the next one!
We're heading back to The Winston — TAPP Winston Matchplay returns on Thursday 16 July, kicking off at 6pm. If you've been before you know the drill; if you haven't, this is a great one to start with.
It's group match play all night — you'll be matched up in groups of 3 or 4 across a series of machines, with points going to whoever finishes highest in each group. We'll keep cycling through rounds, so even if one game doesn't go your way, there's always the next match to claw it back. Everyone stays in the mix right to the end.
It's always great to be back at The Winston in North Hobart for great food, great drinks, and great games. Grab a bite, settle in, and enjoy a relaxed night of flipping with good company.
Whether you're a regular or just curious to give competitive pinball a go, you'll be made welcome. Mark the 16th in your calendar and come have a crack — we'd love to see you there!
