Pin-Golf Round 4!

We had a tee-rific (sorry) turnout for our latest Pin-Golf tournament at Replay Bar, with players driving, chipping, and flipping their way through each hole to stay under par. A huge thanks to Replay Bar for hosting us, and to our sponsors Vocaf and Stern Army for helping make the event such a success!

In Pin-Golf, each machine is set up as a “hole”, with a target score acting as the par. Players try to reach that score in as few balls as possible – the fewer balls you need, the better your score for that hole. It’s a great mix of skill and rule knowledge to understand what will get you to the target in your current position.

We had a strong field across both divisions, and even a few latecomers joined in for the unranked, casual B-Division after Pin-Golf concluded – including Mark, who drove all the way down from Launceston and swept the win! 🏆

The target scores were set a little tougher this time due to the smaller course, but everyone rose to the challenge and played some fantastic rounds. Special shout-out to Brett and Royal, who were the only players to score a hole-in-one – both achieved on Metallica! ⛳

After qualifying, players faced off in a double elimination finals bracket, meaning you had to lose twice before you were out. The primary bracket ran best-of-three matches, while the secondary bracket was a quick best-of-one. It made for some tight contests and close calls!

Our door prize was a Stern Transformers Translite and a Vocaf cap, won by Brett on the random Wheel of Names – congratulations! 🎁

Our next event is on Thursday the 23rd, which is the Hobart Show public holiday. We’ll be starting earlier than usual, at 4:30 pm, and running a longer comp so there’ll be more WPPRs on the line. Hope to see you there!

Min Strikes!

We had a fantastic night of pinball at The Winston, getting plenty of games in on their brand-new machines. Huge thanks to The Winston and Tye for hosting us!

We had a great turnout of 21 players, trialling a new “Min Strikes” format. Instead of standard strike groups, we split players into as many groups as possible across the lineup, letting everyone play more games in less time. Players were eliminated after 6 strikes, with strikes handed out relative to finish position:

• 4-player: 0 / 1 / 1 / 2
• 3-player: 0 / 1 / 2
• 2-player: 0 / 2

After a fun night of competition, here’s how the top four finished:

Max Deep South!

We had a fantastic night for our latest TAPP event with a great turnout of 24 players — including some new faces (a warm welcome to you all 👋). Big thanks as always to Deep South Brewing Co. for hosting us!

A huge shout-out to ACE, who went undefeated all night to claim the victory.

No door prizes this time, but we introduced a new challenge: win three games in a row and earn a Schooner on TAPP. Congrats to Wes, Brad, Emily, Kev, Tom, Josh, Simon, and Ace on pulling it off! Special mention to Ace, who donated his drink to Wes — upgrading him from a schooner to a pint 🍺. If you earned a schooner but didn’t claim it, just see us at the next event to grab yours.

We had to settle the podium places in some tense playoffs — Simon took out 2nd in a head-to-head tiebreaker, while Tom snuck past Kev and Emily in a three-way battle to snatch the 4th place prize.

Classic!

Saturday’s tournament at Replay Bar saw a fantastic turnout and plenty of exciting matches. Players worked through a set of our most tried-and-true formats: a round of matchplay qualifying, where everyone had a chance to prove themselves across multiple games, followed by single-elimination finals that brought the tension right up to the last ball.

As always, we also gave out a door prize — congratulations to ACE, who scored a BPAC T-shirt!

A huge thanks to our sponsors for their continued support — AMD for supplying T-shirts and Stern Army for the translites. And of course, thanks to Replay Bar for hosting us and keeping the machines running beautifully throughout the night.

Just Frenzy!

The ever-popular Flip Frenzy format was back at Replay Bar last Thursday night, with players diving straight into fast-paced, back-to-back head-to-head matches. The goal? Play as many games as possible before the clock runs out, racking up wins to climb the scoreboard. Each win earns you +1 point, while each loss takes you -1 point. After each game, you re-enter the queue to be paired with a new opponent.

There’s strategy in how many games you play. If you think you can’t catch another player’s score, you might be better off conceding a game to fit in one more before the timer ends. Conversely, if you have a big lead, you might deliberately drain out quickly to move on—though that comes with the risk of your opponent pulling off a surprise win! Do you take the risk to squeeze in more games?

Josh came within a whisker of a flawless victory, dropping just one game—thanks to an epic comeback from ACE on Iron Maiden, turning ~2M into over 200M on ball 3 to steal the win. Nicely done, ACE! 😀

🏆 Prizes were picked in order of finish, with the top 4 choosing before passing it on:

• A Stern Pinball Translite (thanks to our amazing sponsor, Stern Pinball!)
• One of three boxes of gourmet doughnuts from Circle of Life Doughnut Co 🍩
• TAPP T-Shirt

Double Rung!

Another awesome night of pinball at Deep South Brewing Co.! Lots of tight matches, great scores, and good laughs all around—but a special shout out to Wes Keys, who claimed his first ever TAPP win. Despite being a regular fixture in the top 4 and currently ranked #2 in the state, the top spot at TAPP had eluded him—until now. A massive congrats, Wes. Well deserved, and surely the first of many.

We started off with Matchplay Qualifying, with players rotating through four-player groups across several rounds. That set the stage for a Ladder Elimination Finals—where the bottom two players are eliminated each round, and the top two progress upward to take on the next tier. It’s a survival format that rewards both consistency and strong qualifying performance.

The crowd was a little smaller than usual, with a few of the regular crew resting up, preparing, or travelling for TAZPIN 2025, but the competition was still fierce. Plenty of highlight plays and last-ball turnarounds kept the night exciting.

Instead of our usual door prize, we spun the wheel after each qualifying round, giving out drinks to some lucky players between rounds.

Pin-Golf Round 3!

🏌️‍♂️ TAPP Pin-Golf Round 3 – Wrap-up! ⛳

We were back on the greens (well, playfields) at Replay Bar last Thursday for another competitive and fun round of pin-golf!

For those new to the format: the goal in pin-golf is to hit the target score in as few balls (strokes) as possible across 7 machines (holes). The top scorers then moved on to a best-of-3 single elimination bracket to battle it out for the night’s top honours:

🥄 Over-Par Champion
There was also an award for the highest score of the golf round. Of course, having a high score in golf isn’t always a good thing…
But congratulations to Lee Davey for taking home the wooden spoon prize: Over-Par Champion!

🍻 Hole-in-One Club
There were no second-place prizes this week—but instead, anyone who nailed a hole-in-one on a machine scored themselves a drink! 🥂
🎯 Seven players joined the club, with Patrick sinking TWO hole-in-ones! Cheers to all of them!

Heads Up!

Thanks to everyone who joined us a couple of nights ago for our Max Matchplay comp at Replay Bar! With no qualifying round, it was straight into a full night of head-to-head action 🔥.

The standings were tight across the board, with several players neck-and-neck right to the end. We then held tie-breakers after the 10 matches were finished to settle the final positions!

Special shoutout to Solomon, who put on an almost perfect run—only to be stopped in his tracks by Kev on Star Wars in an upset late in the night. Incredible play from both!

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we navigated a slightly slower pace with a couple of machines out of action—but the competition was strong and the energy stayed great all evening.

Playoff Tie-Breakers
Two close ties needed to be settled by playoff:
• A head-to-head match to decide 2nd vs 3rd
• Another to determine 4th vs 5th
Each playoff was a single, 3-ball game—hard fought and well earned!

Wooden Spoon Playoff
There was a prize up for grabs at the other end of the ladder too. With two players tied at the bottom, we ran a fun playoff to determine the Wooden Spoon. Daniel defeated Lee to take home a BPAC T-shirt (thanks to AMD) and free re-entry to the next event!

He celebrated his birthday on the night and locked in 3rd place—happy birthday and well played!

Deep South!

Thank You for an awesome night at Deep South!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us last week for our first-ever event at Deep South Brewing Co.—what an incredible night! The competition was fierce all night, with players pushing each other to higher and higher scores. We’re very grateful to Deep South for being such fantastic hosts. The food and beers were a hit with everyone, and their warm hospitality made everyone feel welcome.

A massive shoutout to all the players who came along and participated. Congratulations to the top 4 players in each division for their stellar performances!

🥇 First place in each division received a $40 Deep South voucher to spend at the restaurant, bar, or on some of Deep South Brewing Co.’s awesome merchandise. 🥈 Second place took home a $20 voucher—a great way to enjoy more of what Deep South has to offer!

🎁 Door Prize: Congrats to Brett, who took home a copy of Super-Skill Pinball: 4-Cade—a strategic roll-and-write board game that captures the risk/reward of pinball across four unique tables. A fun interpretation of pinball in board game format for those who enjoy tabletop gaming!

Special thanks to Simon for bringing along his JJP Guns N’ Roses machine and setting it up for the night—it was a standout in the lineup. Brutally tough, it delivered a serious challenge and acted as a great equalizer, punishing mistakes while rewarding precision.

Matchplay^2!

Thanks to everyone who came out for our most recent event at Replay Bar! We debuted the Double Matchplay format for the first time, combining two scoring systems: 7/5/3/1 in qualifying to reward consistency, and 4/2/1/0 in finals to crown our champion.

A big thank you to Replay Bar for hosting us, and to all the players who brought such great energy and competition to the night. We even had to tap multiple players out mid-game under the mercy rule because they were absolutely blowing up the machines!

Flip Frenzy!

Thanks to everyone who came along to our most recent event at Replay Bar! We kicked things off with a classic Flip Frenzy, before splitting into two divisions for finals.

A huge thank you to Replay Bar for hosting us once again. The machines had recently been tuned and waxed, and they were playing beautifully—super fast, smooth, and sharp. Big thanks to the Replay crew for always keeping things in top shape.

👕 Feature Prizes – The Lazaréth T-Shirts

The standout prizes of the night were our brand new TAPP Lazaréth T-shirts — a nod to the classic pinball moment when a ball bounces back into play after seemingly being lost. These amazing shirts were designed by our very own member and artist, Royal Murray, and were awarded to the 1st place finishers in both divisions. Massive thanks to Royal for the awesome design and all the effort that went into producing them!

We’re a little late on the recap — but that’s only because we had such an awesome time at last Thursday’s Keep Pace! tournament! 💥

A huge thank you to Replay Bar for generously hosting us. The new elimination format was a hit (even if it ran a bit long — we’ll keep tweaking!), and the vibe all night was electric.

Special mention to Damian, who was first out but took it like a champ — scoring the wooden spoon prize: a $50 Replay Bar voucher and a hand-crafted TAPP coaster, made by our very own Lee. 🙌

We only ran a single division due to the format, with the following taking out our top 4 spots:

Metallica Grand Champion:

Douglas Lewis, visiting from Victoria, earned the GC title for the evening, taking home the special Metallica Grand Champion commemorative plaque!

We spun the random wheel to determine who took home the awesome swag sent over by Stern Pinball:

• Solomon Smith grabbed the awesome Metallica translite.

Top Tournament Results:

While the larger prizes went to our lucky wheel winners this week, our top players certainly didn’t go home empty-handed. Division winners got their pick of apparel prizes: Josh chose an Avatar hat, and Emily went for an AMD T-shirt. The top two players from each division also earned free re-entry to a future event, with second-place finishers receiving an additional token pin or keychain.

The double-elimination format made for an exciting night, giving players extra opportunities to fight their way back into contention. Though it made for a slightly longer evening, we hope everyone enjoyed the extra competitive drama!

Max Matchplay!

What an amazing event we had yesterday, with a record-breaking turnout of 24 enthusiastic players! 🎉

We tried out a new format—Max Matchplay—which works like the popular Flip-Frenzy but guarantees everyone at least 7 games instead of a time limit. Despite the crowd, everything ran smoothly, leading to fantastic matchups, impressive high scores, and nail-biting knockouts. 🔥

Following the qualifying rounds, the finals split players into two exciting brackets. Congratulations to all the winners! 🏆

Special congratulations to Ryan Lacaze, who took home our door prize—a Stern The Uncanny X-Men Translite (courtesy of Stern Army). Ryan was visiting us from Townsville and is well-known to anyone who tuned into the IFPA National Championship as a commentator and stream runner. Group Elimination!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for another awesome night of pinball! The competition was tighter than ever, with many close games and impressive performances. Our rounds are now taking 50% longer than a year ago—proof of how much everyone’s skills have improved! We even had to tweak some machines to keep things challenging.

20 → 24 February 2025 🗓️

TAPP at ACS!

We just returned from an amazing weekend in Townsville, competing in the IFPA Australian Championship Series (ACS) – the premier and toughest pinball competition in the country! It was an incredible experience going up against Australia’s best players, and we couldn’t be prouder of our team.

All the machines were set brutally tough—tilts were tight, ball saves were nearly non-existent, posts were widened, and rubbers were removed. It was a true test of skill, and we’re stoked with how our players performed under the pressure.

A special mention to Wes, who celebrated his birthday on Sunday while we were there! Of course, we got him cake. We hope you enjoyed spending your birthday competing for GCs—what better way to celebrate! Happy Birthday, Wes!

Thursday Night – Pizza + Pinball Strikes Comp
119 players competed, and Josh had a solid run, finishing in 25th place.

Friday – Level 1 Championships
118 competitors battled it out, with Wes finishing highest among our crew in 51st place, followed by Josh in 70th and Pat in 81st.

ACS Main Event – Invitational
This invitation-only tournament featured the top 64 ranked players in Australia. In qualifying, Josh put on an incredible performance, finishing 11th. Pat placed 55th, Wes came in 58th, and Tom finished 60th. Josh made it through to the playoffs, where he ended up in 17th place overall.

Women’s Championship Invitational
Lily represented TAPP in this elite 16-player event, fighting hard for a fantastic 12th-place finish!

Sunday Sesh Side Comp
104 players competed in the final event of the weekend. Josh led the way for TAPP, finishing in an impressive 5th place. The rest were not far behind, with Pat placing 17th, Wes coming 22nd, Tom finishing 24th, and Lily in 88th.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who competed and represented Tasmania so well. For many of our players, this was their first major competition, and they held their own against the best in the country.

A massive thank you to all our supporters back home and those who followed along with the action on the stream. Your encouragement and support were felt every step of the way!

Finally, congratulations to all the winners from the tournament—what an incredible display of skill! We all learned a lot from watching some of the best in the world, and it was a privilege to see it live in action.

Frenzied Strikes!

Last Thursday, we returned to Replay Bar for the first time since November, and it was a fantastic night with an amazing turnout! The night kicked off with a fast-paced Flip Frenzy qualifying round, leading into an intense 3-strike knockout final—making for some thrilling and hard-fought matches.

The 2024 TAPP State Finals brought our season to an unforgettable close! A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the State Finals a fantastic event filled with intense matches, outstanding sportsmanship, and plenty of smiles.

Another massive shout-out to Kev, Brett, Andy, Josh, Simon, Lee, Mick, and ACE. The amount of work it takes to break down, transport, set up, level, test, fix, clean, and maintain these machines is incredible—and we’re truly grateful for all the effort you put in. We couldn’t have held such an amazing and varied finals without your contributions.

Your support behind the scenes helped everything run smoothly. We appreciate how everybody just pitches in and gets it done. 😊

🔥 Highlights:
All of the matches were incredibly tight, with players pushing their skills to the absolute limit. Every round showcased remarkable gameplay, with several matches going down to the final ball. Pat even reached the Star Trek wizard mode, and many others achieved epic game goals and complex and difficult super jackpots. The competition was intense, but the atmosphere remained light-hearted and fun—exactly how pinball should be. Whether winning or losing, everyone played with a smile, showing true passion for the game.

🏅 Finalist Medallions:
All of the top 16 qualifiers received a finalist medallion. Although we were sad that Frank couldn’t join us, Cameron, who was ranked 17th, stepped in and played incredibly well—almost knocking out Josh in the first round before Josh went on to win the championship!

🎖️ Nationals Invitations & Trophies:
The top 4 players have earned an invitation to the National Championship in Townsville (Feb 22–23). They also received trophies, which Tom has kindly volunteered to engrave with the champions’ names soon.

🎯 Celebrating the End of the 2024 Season:
Thank you to all the players who competed. The competition was fierce, with everyone playing their absolute best, yet the event maintained a chilled, laid-back pace filled with camaraderie and good fun. You can all be proud of how you played.

2025 Season Kick-Off!

What a way to kick off our second year of TAPP! We had a record number of players turn out, making it an incredible start to the season. The buzz in the room, the sound of flippers and bells, and everyone catching up (or meeting for the first time) really set the tone for what’s going to be an epic year of pinball.

🙏 Massive Thanks to Our Machine Contributors:
First and foremost, an enormous shout-out to our machine contributors—Kev, Brett, Andy, Josh, Simon, Lee, Mick, and ACE. Without you, events like this simply wouldn’t happen. It’s a massive effort to break down, transport, set up, level, test, fix, clean, and maintain these machines—not to mention doing it all again in reverse after the event. We truly appreciate the time, effort, and care you put into sharing your games with the community.

🏛️ Thank You to Hobart City Council for renting us the Pat Murnane Memorial Hall and making it available to our group.

🧶 Thanks to Choices Flooring Moonah for donating the carpet that helped protect the hall’s floor while we enjoyed some intense pinball action.

🙌 And of course, thank you to all the players—both our regulars and the awesome newcomers who joined us. It was great to hear all your positive feedback from last year, and we hope to see you at many more events throughout this year as we compete to find the best pinball players while enjoying great company and good times.
